My Aviation Journey

My name is Ibrahim Khalid, and I started my aviation career at Hulhule Airport in October 1979.

When I joined, the Maldives had only one small international airport. The facilities were basic, and there were very few aircraft movements. Aviation was very different from what we see today. I feel fortunate to have seen how aviation developed in the Maldives and to have played a small part in that development.

During my career, I worked in airport operations, air traffic services, aviation safety, safety management and aircraft accident investigation. I had the opportunity to work with many dedicated people, improve procedures, strengthen safety and help train younger people entering the aviation field.

After spending more than four decades in aviation, I have learned that aviation is not only about aircraft, technology and rules. It is mainly about people. Technology will continue to change, but good judgement, discipline, professionalism and a strong concern for safety will always be important.

After retiring from full-time aviation, I started this website to share my thoughts about aviation in a simple and honest way. The articles will not be limited to my own experiences or to aviation in the Maldives. I also want to write about interesting aviation matters from other parts of the world.

I will write about anything in aviation that I feel is interesting, important or worth discussing. This may include safety, human factors, air traffic control, airport operations, aircraft accidents and incidents, new technology, aviation history and changes taking place in the industry.

Some articles will come from my own experiences. Others will be about aviation events and developments from around the world. Naturally, my experience of more than four decades will affect the way I look at these matters, but I will try to keep everything simple, practical and easy to understand.

This blog is about aviation as it really is. I want to look at what happened, ask questions and discuss what we can learn from it. I may not always have all the answers, but I believe we can always learn something by looking at aviation matters openly and honestly.

I hope these articles will be useful to aviation professionals, students and anyone interested in aviation. If something I write helps even one person learn something new or look at aviation in a different way, I will be happy that I started this website.
